I guess you can combine books, with audio visual mediums, the internet and a private teacher. Or maybe instead of private teacher you have a very good friend who agrees to talk to you in Arabic as much as possible

i'm married to an arab n still after 8 years my spoken arabic is just enough to impress! lol
but ofcourse it benefits him for ENGLISH.
d best way to learn arabic is TV! there are many music channels & some arabic channels that comes with english translation.
this is how i learn my arabic. i love arabic songs. i will search d internet for it & then for the lyrics & then the english translation. & i use it to wow my dear ones. lol
