Dubai is a cosmopolitan city of so many nationalities, isn't it?, but there increasing reports of folks who complain about being discriminated against, espcialy Indian and Pakistani people. The better jobs (and, obviously, salaries) go to European white ex-pats. why are Indians treated badly by locals as well as the other white and non-white ex-pats? what is your experience with that? Is that true or half true or total rubbish?

Theree is some cases...Islam embraces all races, ethnicities and creeds as one. We are all 3ibaad allaah (God's servants)...Racist peoples need understand we are all creations of Allah and we are not those who judge. Only Allah
can!

It's about education i think. People from west think they know it all usually and they are better at whatever they do, high educated;; those from the east who come to UAE are mostly non skilled workers, there are many skilled but majority are construction coolies etc. Everybody who thinking they are better will blame the mistakes to the others. Racism is when you can blame somebody for your failures. There is racism in Europe too, and as we can see in US also. after Obama was elected there was numerous incidents of racism .You can read here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitchell/racial-incidents-and-thre_b_144061.html

I do believe it definitely exists to some extent.

Those who say Dubai is racists, must say
an example. Everybody is equal in the law. As example, in majoryty of cases labour department rule for the employees
against the local company that employ them..UAE, it is a peace loving and business minded
country, that welcomes people from all over the worrld. Dubai helps those who wouldn't get a job in their home countries get a good livving standrad here.

If you think else, please, go back to ur home.

Habayeb's picture

why should one be told  "go back to ur home" just cause they believe that racism does exist? Everyone knows racism exists everywhere..not necessarily only in the case of employment but even in cases of socializing sometimes...nobody's saying dubai is filled with racists...there are so many good people around too alhamdulilah.

isn't it true that there is some sort of order in uae society like this, correct me if i am too wrong: 1. Emiratis and other Gulf Arabs (Qatar, Kuwait, etc.) 2. European and American whites, and Arabs outside the Gulf 3. all the rest

so if you go to a Lebanese shawarma restaurant and wait in line to get your shawarma, and here comes Mr. Emirati in his spotless kandoora, he winks at the guy in charge of the shawrmas, goes to the front and gets his shawarma ASAP.

true, half true or a little bit true? (just don't tell me I'm completely wrong!)

ther e must be some cases certainnly, otherwise the people would not talk about that, articles in the newspapers would not appear about this isue  But dubai is not alone in this, in russia we also have some racism or nationalism espeically against people from the caucasus

i can say that i have been treated well in dubai..

i agree dxb has lots of racism. i remember each time i come to dxb, at the airport the immigration gentleman is a local. and each time i approach him, i wish him hello, but he doesnt even bother to look up n give a smile. i think indians should not be treated like this. the world knows that we are enjoying respectable positions in companies. back in our country, we are treated with lots of respect. the same respect should be taken and given by locals.

especially because, if indians are working in dubai, it is the country also which gets benefited by their services, over and above the fact that indians get opportunities in dubai.

I have been in India and I disagree with you. I have seen lots of disrespect from Indian agents to Indian Travelers, I am US citizen myself but I was respected.

Specking of racism, India will be the Top if we grade the countries around the world. . In addition disrespecting their own people! Example: I was traveling through India with hired Driver ( I called him, Friend)  stopped at  hotel Close to Taj   to have lunch and continue our journey to Jaypure . The driver dropped me at front of hotel entrance and went to park the car. I waited the driver to come and join me at my table when he was stopped by restaurant attended , few minutes of discussion between the driver and the restaurants attended it seemed drive was being returned.  I hade to get up and intervene but my driver already disappointed, and embarrassed (humiliated) to get back in to dining area. So, What do you call this? Do you call this a respect?

I have not seen any such treatment in anywhere not even in Dubai.

In  Mumbai I was in this fancy restaurant, 'so called '.  I believe, because of my looks I was waited for 45 minutes at the door to get service,  Others where being seated without even saying a word and all where Indian or regulars. Every time when I had chance to ask what is going on, I was ignored not even a reply. In other words, I was not welcomed. Finally seated, the plates where dropped on my table. So what do you called this?

I hope you can imagine what was like when I was seating in that restaurant.
