UAE stages camel beauty contest

suratBG's picture

Guys, has anybody of you planned on attending it? I've been in UAE but
never seen such a thing? Can anybody go or only for sheiks?

Ten thousand camels will be fluttering their long eyelashes in a
unique international beauty pageant being held in the United Arab
Emirates.

The contest in Abu Dhabi is one of the richest and biggest events of
its kind, with more than $9m (£4.5m; 5.8m euros) and 100 cars in prizes
up for grabs.
The contest will feature camels or "ships of the desert" from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

It looks like nobody in the forum cares or knows much about camels. Most people are into making good money in the City and camels are away from their thoughts.

...and still Indian labourers get 600-700 dirhams .... building the skyscrapers ... many American skyscrapers were also built like this, with the sweat of the poor Native Americans (called Indians mistakenly).. .... whatever ... life

Fedaitny's picture

well Kumar .. life is generally unfair .. but then they are getting the money here at least .. coz if it would be better in India .. they wouldnt come here ..

Zaz's picture

Life fair or unfair is not a question. but people have ambitions to go another country and earn money. There are a lot of motives behind people coming to UAE. Money is biggest factor. There are some people who work on same same salaries of their home countries. They enjoy the environment.

It depend on person's priorties. Nobody is poor. People do manage in 600-600000+

Ok, I was just about ready to agree with zaz but... man! aren't generalizing? "Nobody is poor." ???????? If people do manage it somehow, it doesn't mean there are not any poor people in Dubai. There are many. (all those at the lower end of the range you indicated are poor by any standard) Yes, they would receive even less in India or Pakistan but that doesn't make them richer, just makes them slightly less poor.

Do they have m3alaya at this competition??  For those of you who don't know what     m3alaya is, its an erotic dance performed at some weddings, generally it is thought of as a "shame" by most refined emiratis. It is popular in UAQ and RAK. I think the best explanation of it is the closest thing in emirati arabic culture to a stripper at a western bachelor party, except both the bride, groom and both their respective families are present. Someone told me ( I dont know how truthful or reliable this clame is) that the dance is suppose to get the groom ready for his wedding night and the erotic female on female dance is suppose to artistically mimmic the mating of camels. =\ go figure. Anyway its a pretty entertaining thing to watch.
