I think its fantastic arab people who a generation or two ago were nomads wandering around in the desert, now have cell phones and computers and cars. But culture doesnt change as fast as technology. Arab culture is still medieval. Their treatment of women and human rights not to mention democracy and pretty much every other major social issue is still in the dark-ages.
Arabs, in their rush to become "modern" miss the fact the Western culture has spent CENTURIES growing and developing. Western culture went thru the renaissance, age of enlightenment, growth of democracy, emancipation, womens liberation, etc..
Not to mention christianity which has had a long painful conflict with science, and has very slowly adapted to the modern world.
The Arabs want to jump from the 12th century to the 21st century in one step. And in doing so they have missed badly. Arabs can NEVER be modern until they FIRST modernize their culture and religion. Currently, they are nothing more than 12th century fools with cellphones.

Also, Islam has never been in conflict with science. Women rights? rofl..if people are not willing to get themselves educated on matters like that and willing to live under a big rock named ignorance (talking about ur post) then why should i bother arguing? Also, who is wanting to copy the western world? technology sure why not every1 is becoming modern in technology not just arabs fyi..but culture? Geez no way. You are simply looking Arab world and its relgion with your western glasses. I used to see with eastern glasses before and surprise how west do strange things, everything looks weird etc. then i studied history, science, cultures, languages and other related sciences. Believe me, there is no differnce in west and east. Show me single instance where west has done anything without east. West adopted the policy of colonies one and half century ago, which did not lasted longer. Then it started policy of manupilating the East Govts, politics by agencies, unions and threatening.
If you see, centuries ago, countries used to challenge and fight wars, now countries are deceiving and putting war on other countries so that nobody become joint force and react.
What arabs did wrong to west which you cannot forget and critize the Arabs? Equality about what? when girls becoming pregent at age of 13-15 years, is this women liberation? man to man and woman to woman relationships is freedom? or insulting others is freedom of speech.
even 10 more centeries if world go , all world will keep changing even west may adopt east style.
What if people dont use the modern techonology, anything will change? what a human need, food, shelter, safety and recognition. West needs, east needs. Why do you people differenciate? your discrimination has led world apart...
Therefore, this philosophy is unjust, Just accept the differences otherwise, they will remain there, if do or dont
dear zaz, will all due respect I wish that west will not adopt east style as you hope. 13-15 years old girls getting pregnant are very very rare. again with all due respect, in the west we all know of an eastern guy who slept with a 9 year old (I think we all know who I mean). but again, I think that both cultures east and west have a good side and a bad side. they just both have to accept that.
Why don't we all just live in peace instead of trying to figure who's better, who's worse, always competing?
everybody gave something at a certain time... the east has given a lot to the west - algebra, astronomy, maths, rhyming poetry, the concept of 'zero' 0 and so on... the west gave us modern technology, computers, mobile phones, television, dish-washers, etc. Let's coexist in peace.
