It claims more than 50,000 lives every day, leaves millions of people without homes, healthcare and education and leads to conflict and famine. And now residents of the UAE are being urged to come together and fight the world’s biggest plague - poverty.
From today people throughout the UAE can join the ‘Stand Up and Take Action’ campaign and give the world’s poorest people a voice.
The international initiative, which is backed by 7DAYS, will see the UAE join 100 countries across the globe in urging everyone to put pressure on world leaders to end poverty - by cancelling Third World debt and honouring their pledge to eradicate the suffering of the poorest nations by 2015.
All you have to do is sign up and stand up between October 16 and 18.
Last year, 116 million people took part worldwide - including 140,000 in the UAE - and set a new world record. Organisers are hoping to top that figure this year.
