I heard that spitting is banned in Dubai and not only this but the culprit gets deported. Is there any truth in this? I fly frequently to Dubai, and not that I am uneducated or anything but I just thought it would be good to know for sure.

no, not spitting in general , just the leaves of the betel plant, it's a charcteristic red-tainted spit. It's an Asian (pakistani, etc.) custom. so, calm down... you're not affected
they chew this plant with tobacco sometimes with some nuts, i don't remember their names. It's a South Asian customary thing... like drinking espresso for an Italian..

but yeah its true its restricted on spitting and throwing cigarette buds on roads, if caught u will be fined not deported (i read this in news paper KT)
