you referring to the case of the Australian guy who showed his finger to an Emarati driver? I think Emiratis are very easily offended.. fine the man but why deport?
yes, exactly. it's scary to me. have you read the whole story? the emirati has been very aggressive. must have thought he was the king of the road, weaving between lanes, flashing his lights, almost crashing into the car of the Australian guy, and being in the UAE Armed Forces and a spoiled Emirati his ego must have been hurt way too much by the Australian middle finger
I read about this incident. I am really sorry for the Australian guy. The thing is, in the UAE you can almost never be the winner when dealing with Emiratis, especially influential Emiratis. All that pumped up ego! There's no fair law that will put you at an equal standing with the Emirati, NO LAW!!!
Hypocrisy at its best!! For all of you who have been victims of this kind of road rage, do not flip your finger at an Emirati, do nothing but take out your video camera or mobile phone and start taping what the Emirati is doing to you. Laws many times work one way here. The Emirati way.
oh!! the victim got deported! is this a rare occurernce in Dubai?
i think it is rare that someone is deported like this.... the guys was military so he pushed the courts until he got his way, but the average emirati will probably accept an apology or out-of-court settlement (baksheesh)
Darren's case is a total overreaction. He isn't some drunken lout being insulting. The police officer himself did NOT want to press charges, but the Emirati driving like a nutter insisted.
Deporting Darren and jailing him for upsetting a local spoiled chap who was driving like a fool - that really is too much, especially bearing in mind that Darren appears to have been honest and co-operative throughout the whole incident..
he was TOOO honest, i would add barrym. i would never ever confess to show the middle finger
it's too much for somebody to get deported just because of flipping the finger. A monetary penalty would have been sufficient.
